Are You Deceived?
The word of God has much to say about the subject of deception. Let us consider some thoughts from the Scriptures on this important theme as we each ask ourselves this question: "Am I deceived?"

A man is deceived if he hears the word of God and does not obey it.
James 1:22 - "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves." Jesus said in John 14:15 - "If you love Me, keep My commandments."

A man is deceived if he claims that he does not sin.
I John 1:8 - "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." Romans 3:23 - "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

A man is deceived if he thinks himself to be something special.
Galatians 6:3 - "For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself." Philippians 2:3,4 - "Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others."

A man is deceived if he thinks earthly knowledge or wisdom is of real value.
I Corinthians 3:18 - "Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise."

A man is deceived if he claims to be religious but does not carefully control his speech.
James 1:26 - "If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless."

A man is deceived if he thinks he can live wickedly and not reap the consequences of such.
Galatians 6:7 - "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows that he will also reap."

A man is deceived if he thinks he can dabble with intoxicants and be unaffected.
Proverbs 20:1 - "Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray [deceived] by it is not wise." I Peter 5:8 - "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour."

A man is deceived if he thinks he can closely associate with evil companions and not be corrupted.
I Corinthians 15:33 - "Do not be deceived: 'Evil company corrupts good habits.'"

A man is deceived if he thinks the unrighteous have any hope of heaven.
I Corinthians 6:9,10 - "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God."

Dear listeners, Satan will certainly do his best to deceive you by getting you to ignore these passages from God's word. Will you let him?
